Days after major players in the entertainment scene in the North especially Kannywood expressed their displeasure at the decision to confer the “Sarkin waka” chieftaincy title on Korede Bello, the Kano state emirate council has denied such claims.
Responding to the claims that the Lagos-based musician was conferred with the title for his contribution to music in Nigeria, Alhaji Munir Sanusi, the chief of staff of Kano emirate council, denied rumours that the Emir of Kano Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II had conferred the title on the Supreme Mavin Dynasty act.
He said the emirate has no intention to that effect and has never engaged in any discussion with the musician to that respect and thus described the information as a mere rumour and baseless.
The rumour started making the rounds after Korede’s recent visit to Kano on the invitation of one of the Emir’s sons during Eid-Kabir sallah celebration where he participated in Sallah Durbar wearing full Hausa traditional regalia.
On sighting the “God Win crooner”, during the durbar, spectators who couldn’t hold back their suprise started hailing the musician as sarkin waka which later sparked rumours that he may have been conferred with such a title.
